About cut-offs
The cut-off is the lowest concentration of a drug or its metabolites in the sample at which the test shows a positive result.
- Lower cut-off – a more sensitive test: detects smaller amounts or use further back in time, but positive results caused by permitted medicines or passive exposure are more likely.
- Higher cut-off – fewer false positives; typically used for workplace and legal screening.
- Standard cut-off follows the most widely used international guidelines (e.g. SAMHSA in the USA, EWDTS in Europe).
For most substances several cut-offs are available – if you need non-standard cut-offs, mention it in your request and we will advise. For panels in stock, the cut-offs are listed in the product description. A positive rapid-test result should be confirmed by a laboratory method (GC-MS / LC-MS).
