This rapid test detects Clostridium difficile antigens (GDH, toxin A and toxin B) in human faeces. Clostridium difficile can cause infections ranging from mild diarrhoea to severe colitis, which can be life-threatening. Infection is caused by two toxins, toxin A and toxin B, which are produced by certain strains of the bacterium. The enzyme GDH is used as a marker in the study because all strains of Clostridium difficile produce large amounts of it. This test helps to rapidly detect the presence of these harmful toxins for the diagnosis of C. difficile infections.
