Combined SAA and CRP test

The SAA and CRP blood test evaluates serum amyloid A (SAA) or SAA together with C-reactive protein (CRP), which are acute-phase inflammatory markers. SAA also increases during viral infections, while CRP increases more during bacterial infections; therefore, this combination helps differentiate the type of infection and allows for a more rational prescribing of antibiotics.
