What is this test?
The ferritin test assesses the amount of ferritin, the primary iron storage protein, in the blood. Low ferritin helps suspect iron deficiency anemia, especially in children, pregnant women, and women with heavy periods. Ferritin can increase in the presence of inflammation, so the result is evaluated together with clinical data.
