About the condition
The use of cannabis and synthetic cannabinoids (K2, “spice“) can impair attention, reaction time, and memory, while synthetic cannabinoids often cause stronger and more unpredictable effects, such as anxiety, heart rhythm disorders, and poisoning. Cotinine indicates recent nicotine use (smoking, e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches). A saliva test helps quickly check for recently used substances; a positive result must be confirmed in a laboratory.
Ingredients
- Test device
- Package leaflet
Instructions
The test apparatus, sample and/or controls shall be brought to room temperature (15 °C to 30 °C) before the start of the test. Instruct the sampler not to put anything in the mouth, including food, drink, gum or tobacco products, for at least 10 minutes before collection.
- Allow to reach room temperature before opening the bag. Remove the test from the sealed bag and use within one hour.
- Remove the cover of the device and take a sample of the oral fluid as follows. Important: Place the absorbent tip against the upper jaw, lower jaw and roots to saturate the oral fluid. Insert the tip of the sponge into the mouth, swipe vigorously around the gums on both sides of the mouth (10-15 times) to aid saturation. Insert the absorbent tip under the tongue to collect oral fluid until a flow appears in the test windows (approximately 60 seconds), then remove the device and turn on the timer. If no flow appears, repeat the above procedure until flow appears. If no flow occurs and after following the above steps three times, discard the device, review the procedures with the donor and repeat the test with a new device.
- Place the test device on a clean and level surface.
- After 3-10 minutes, read the test result.
If all lines are clearly visible after 3 minutes or less, the test can be considered negative and rejected.
If the lines are not visible after 3 minutes, the test should be re-read after 10 minutes.
Results
NEGATIVE:* A coloured line appears in the control area (C) and another coloured line appears in the test area (T). This negative result means that the concentration in the oral fluid sample is below the limits set for the specific drug tested.
*NOTE: The shade(s) of the coloured lines in the test areas (T) may vary. The result should be considered negative when even a faint line is present.
POSITIVE: a coloured line appears in the control area (C) and no line appears in the test area (T). A positive result means that the concentration of the drug in the oral fluid sample is higher than the established cut-off value for the specific drug.
INVALID: there is no line in the control area (C). The most likely reasons for the failure of the control line are insufficient sample volume or inappropriate procedure techniques. Read the instructions again and repeat the test with a new test instrument. If the result is still invalid, contact the manufacturer.
