What is this test?
Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) test detects the amount of AFP in the blood. In oncology, it is used as an aid in monitoring patients with hepatocellular carcinoma or germ cell tumors and in the management of high-risk groups (e.g., those with cirrhosis). AFP is not a standalone diagnostic tool.
