About the condition
Rotavirus and enteric adenoviruses are among the most common causes of acute diarrhea (gastroenteritis) in young children; they spread easily via dirty hands, objects, and food, especially in kindergartens. The illness usually begins with vomiting, watery diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. The greatest danger is fluid loss (dehydration), so it is essential to consume fluids frequently; if the child urinates little, is lethargic, vomits constantly, or there is blood in the stool, seek medical attention immediately. The test helps determine whether the diarrhea was caused by one of these viruses.

Instructions
Sample collection
- Collect a sufficient amount of stool (1–2 ml or 1–2 g) into a clean, dry sample collection container. Best results are obtained if the test is performed within 6 hours of collection.
Stool sample processing
- Solid samples: unscrew the test tube cap and remove the sample collection applicator. Insert the applicator into the stool sample in at least 3 different places to collect approximately 50 mg of stool (about 1/4 of a pea).
- Liquid samples: hold the dropper vertically, draw up the stool sample and add 2 drops (approximately 50 µL) into the test tube containing the dilution buffer.
- Insert the applicator back into the test tube and screw on the cap.
- Shake the tube for 10–15 seconds to mix thoroughly and leave it for 2 minutes.
- Remove the plastic barrier strip from the test tube.
- Place the tube on a clean, flat surface, press the tube body from top to bottom and start the timer.
- Read the result at 10 minutes. Do not read the result after 20 minutes.
