About the condition

Alcohol slows reaction time, impairs coordination and decision-making, which is why even a small amount increases the risk of traffic accidents and injuries. Alcohol is broken down slowly in the body, so the morning after a party its concentration may still exceed the legal limit for drivers, even though a person feels sober. A single-use breathalyzer helps to do a preliminary check before driving; its result is not legally binding, and if in doubt, it is best not to drive.

Ingredients

  • Single-use breathalyser – glass tube with measuring substance (reagent), adsorption granules and filters
  • Two protective caps
  • Instructions for use

Instructions

  1. Press the protective caps firmly on both ends of the breathalyser to pierce both ends of the tube.
  2. If the kit includes a balloon, insert the tube into the balloon. If there is no balloon, move on to the next step.
  3. Take a deep breath and blow into the glass tube (twice, for about 10 seconds). If there is a balloon, blow until it is fully inflated.
  4. Wait at least 2–4 minutes. After 5 minutes the result may be unreliable.
  5. Compare the colour with the colour scale on the packaging. The most accurate comparison is obtained in daylight.

Results

HOW TO READ

If the colour in the middle part of the tube has changed, alcohol is present in your breath. If the colour matches or exceeds the 0.2‰ mark on the packaging, the blood alcohol concentration is 0.2‰ or higher.

IMPORTANT

Blood alcohol concentration rises for about an hour after drinking, so the result may change. Even less than 0.2‰ may impair your ability to drive. The result cannot be used as evidence and does not replace an official check. The breathalyser is single-use.

PRECAUTIONS

Keep out of reach of children. Do not remove the measuring substance and avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not use alcohol-containing windshield washer fluid before the test. Dispose of the used breathalyser with household waste; do not throw it into fire.

Frequently asked questions

How to use a single-use breathalyzer?

At least 15 to 20 minutes after last consuming alcohol or food, blow evenly into the tube for the specified time, and evaluate the result based on the color change of the crystals.

Is a single-use breathalyzer accurate?

It shows whether the set limit has been exceeded, but does not show the exact blood alcohol concentration. If in doubt, do not drive.

What is the legal blood alcohol limit when driving?

The limit depends on the country: in many European countries the general legal limit is 0.5 ‰, in some 0.2 or 0.4 ‰, and for novice and professional drivers a limit of 0.0–0.2 ‰ often applies. It is safest to drive completely sober.
